Olssøn Barbieriv, formerly known as
DesignersJourney, are located in Oslo, Norway. This design agency focuses on package
design, brand identity for wine, fashion, luxury, and the arts. I actually
found about them from Callé’s blog post, Design in Europe. The reason I decided
to share this design agency because I admire their work. The designs are
simple, clean and elegant. Some designs are colorful and playful. The way these
designers utilize the packaging space is engaging and interesting. In many
cases, the product’s sales increased after a redesign by Olssøn Barbieri.
On their website under each project,
Olssøn Barbieri discusses a problem and the solution. For example, they did
package design for a Tuscany wine property called Cafaggio. The problem Olssøn
Barbieri was presented with was to create a Bag in Box for design for
Cafaggio’s premium wine. As described on the design agency’s website, companies
are hesitant to market their wine in boxes because they feel the packaging does
not reflect the quality of the product. I think they successfully solved this
problem. The design is sophisticated. The flowing script and the textured
material of the box captures the fine quality of the wine. The designers have
helped Cafaggio communicate to consumers that it sells a high-quality product.
Olssøn Barbieri creates mostly
packaging design but an example of branding I really liked is for Bang Chau
Kaffeforretning. This is a coffee shop. They actually created stamps with the
company’s logo design. They are used on the white paper bags and to-go cups. I
think their use of black and white helps the coffee shop stand out among
competitors. I would imagine that the unique stamp makes a visit to that coffee
shop more memorable and customer service feel more personal.
Overall, Olssøn Barbieri is a successful design agency. They have
won many awards and their design work increases sales for companies. Also, the set-up
and style of their website helps people get an understanding of the kind of
work they do. It is easy to navigate and contains many examples of their most successful
work.

These are awesome, when I first glanced at it I thought this was something vintage, and I was taken back by how recent this is. The design is simple, elegant, as you mentioned. Their work looks really vintage like the modern-50s-era. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteWow, I really dig their style; motif--whatever you want to call it ha:) It is simple and elegant providing a new fabrication of a retro fashion. The products also suit the eccentric nature that both of the designers have. Looking up modern designers is something I tend to stray from, i don't know why, but after seeing this I think I am going to start looking into more designers and ideas.
