First lets talk about the site design. The consistency throughout the site is what I find incredibly appealing. Page after page you are getting the same layout, presenting you with awesome products with a brief (usually witty) description, price, and options to share the product on social media. The flow and consistency of the site makes it incredibly easy to scroll through a dozen pages of products wasting hours without even noticing. I also really enjoy the typography because it is a style I often use switching between sans serif and serif to make distinctions between header and body text. Now onto the products themselves.
Seriously an $1800 scooter? As far as practicality is concerned this looks like a great way to crash and burn at the first hill encountered, but from a design stand point it is delightfully futuristic. Most of the products featured on uncrate follow a similar theme of imagined futurism, while others bring a faux rugged feel popular among urban hipsters. With sections such as gear, beer, rides, and vices it is clear the target audience for the site is men. All ridiculousness aside for anybody interested in innovative technologies and product design this website is an incredible resource.
One last product. Yes this is a $40 collapsable dog bowl. I've been given this kind of bowl for free at hulabaloo. Just goes to show how a good design and recognition of style trends can be incredibly effective in marketing a product.
These products are really cool. I think the photography of the objects adds to their appeal. Even those these products are super expensive, we can still use the site to get ideas for product design and learn about product design.
