Design in Europe

From the start of human existence design has become an essential part of life. We use it for function, fashion, and status. Design is forever changing to fit the lifestyle and needs of todays humans. With so many forms of design there are endless opportunities for new and improved ideas. From better functioning items to a more appealing appearance, design is the solution to endless opportunities. Design is vibrant and in use all around the world, but how often do you see the designs from other countries??? I recently discovered a website, Design of Europe, that highlights the new and happening design trends. From computer designed images to hand-drawn lettering, the site provides a look inside other cultures and new styles.

The site organizes the new designs and ideas by country. When you click on any of the links it takes you to a page that shows the popular designs and arts that are recognized in that country. The designs come from current and active designers.

Its wonderful because you can click on the artists or designers website to check out more of there stuff.

I have spent some time looking through the different pages of countries. I really enjoyed the designs coming from Sweden. They are clean, simple, and interesting.

On the right side of the archive page, the site offers up-dates on things such as books, events, and more that can keep you updated and engaged!

As designers, its important to stay up-to-date and aware of the new and upcoming designs/styles of America and other places in the world. This site is also an excellent resource to find new ideas for your own designs. Sometimes its hard to come up with an idea for a new design, this site is a great place to spark ideas and gain inspiration. I wanted to pass this on as something you can use as a tool. Keep on designing!

  1. What I find most striking perusing the site is how not foreign these designs from other countries are. With the internet and an increasingly globalized world trends in design have an incredible power to transcend borders.

  2. It's interesting that you found a site like this. I imagine that it would be hard to segment what each countries design is like, because you would think there would be many different types and focuses. For instance, in American terms, a designer from Southern California may have very different design techniques than one who lives in Northern California, Inland CA, or someone who lives in Ohio. It would be neat to find a site that showed common trends in the US as well. This site is a great use for inspiration, thanks for sharing! I will be sure to come back to this for ideas!

  3. This is a helpful site, and while I do agree with Cooper, I feel that it is still a positive too see what is happening globally. Many ideas have lost value and the uniqueness of something is often hard to see these days. However, the fact that we can share is a way to inspire and find a cohesive structure in global design. It will always change and always be the same, and in the mix of it all, what we have is what we should share with others. Nice site Calle;)

  4. I love stumbling onto sites like this, one of the greatest things about the internet is the ability to connect with people from around the world to discuss and share about, well, pretty much anything! When looking at design from other countries one can see get inspiration from ideals and cultures that we may have never had the chance to see or appreciate these works. Wether it be across the world or just across the state, we can see the differences in styles of many different people with the click of a mouse!

  5. Design in Europe is a great blog because it can be used as a resource to learn about what is being done outside of the United States. I agree with you that it is important to stay up to date with new design trends. I liked how each country had its own page and that the designs featured are all very different from each other. I really liked the designs on Norway’s page. There are colorful designs and with a good mix of geometric shapes and organic lines.

A design I particularly liked was branding by Martin Stousland .The branding is successful because the colors he chooses work well together to create a fresh, clean look.

  6. While Designs in Europe truly allows for the sharing of international design it is surprising that there is a globalization of what is appealing design wise. There are certain artistic styles which correlate to a geographic region producing emphasis however, there are more overall similarities than differences.
