Re-Thinking the Business Card

Business cards are the one thing that everybody thinks they can design. But creating a good business card is allot more than just slapping your name and number on a rectangular piece of card stock. Designers must think outside of the box when designing business cards in order to create something that is memorable and eye catching

While browsing some of my favorite design inspiration sites I came across this post on DesignInspirationMagazine.com

Below are some of the designs featured that really caught my eye.

  1. Wow didn't realize just how many different creative business cards were out there! I like the idea of having cards that relate to your individual talents or your business as a whole. The one that is modeled after the UI from a camera and the folder that contains the different members of the design firm are definitely the most effective to me!

  2. I love the cheese grater one, I don't think I would use it but it is very memorable. ACO Polymer products is an international drainage company that intern for in the marketing department, and last summer they were starting to create business cards that doubled as jump drives. They were going to load them with with all the information about their products. They are really cool, and they are thin and fit in your wallet!

  3. I'm not too sure about the shards idea for the Greek business "card". They might be a little dangerous. However when I first looked at them I thought they were either wrapped chocolates or some kind of wrapped bar of soap. Having misconstrued that, I started thinking that it would be very cool if you could have some kind of edible or consumable business card that's wrapped in your contact info. So you could theoretically hand out chocolate bars that are wrapped in you business cards. I bet people would love to take your card.

  4. These are all very creative. I've actually been asked by some friends of mine to make up some business cards for them and I think I may be looking to this for some inspiration for when I finally have some time to get to that.

  5. These are all unique business card ideas that have at best an extra functionality (or at worse a still interesting gimmick) through their media. This is a great tactic to have your business card noticed but does come with the risk of being too strange and losing the attention you were trying to grab. My favorites included the piano, the pop-up, and mock vinyl record.

  6. That Google one is my favorite. It's very creative, taking something people use every day and turning it to promote a service. Also, nice job pointing out that everyone thinks they can design a business card even though it should really be left to designers.

  7. I absolutely love business cards. I have actually started a small collection of the ones I find the most appealing. My favorite one I have is from a graphic designer, there are spaces indented on both sides mirroring one another with different points and information about him on the different side of the indents. Making a business card unique is of huge importance as a graphic designer.

  8. I would have never even considered an idea like a cheese grater for a business card. These are really cool designs. I think that the more visually interesting a design can be for something as simple as a business card, shows great creativity and makes you as a designer stand out more.

    Thanks for sharing.
